Yazoo in Dublin

Well I’m getting my eyesight back slowly so I’m emerging blinking into the light. Had a complete blast last night at the Olympia Theatre watching Alf and Vince singing together and going through all their Yazoo tracks.

Upstairs at Eric’s came out when I was 18 – need I say more? I overplayed it and loved every track in it. Their music was such fun, but with a twist to it too, and we poofters always loved them, cos Alison was called Alf and Vince was… well, we never knew who he was.

Last night the crowd went wild – even though they wouldn’t shut up in the front during the quiet numbers like Winter Kills – Alison pointed out the troublemakers afterwards but was in such a chilled mood she said she “couldn’t be arsed” and launched lustfully into another number. She’s never sounded better, the music really hasn’t dated, the production was slick and everything looked really sharp. I was mystified why so few people were dancing – I couldn’t resist.
