Men Without Names

The Gentlemen (c) Maud Larsson 2006I had the pleasure of popping over to London to see Maud Larsson’s new exhibition Men Without Names recently. It’s on at The Horse Hospital, Russell Square, London until December 20th.
This is a profound study of masculinity, by someone who loves men, and can see through their defences. It’s a labour of love, using the lith development process that is painstaking but ultimately beguiling, producing images that are simultaneously rich, lustrous, and fragile. There is a timeless quality to the photographs, which are of modern men but wearing period costumes, with telling anachronisms that connect us to the present moment. If you get a chance, go see this subtle, delicate exhibition.
