Ten years ago on the web…

I just chanced to bump into the web archives at archive.org and am amazed and delighted to find a copy of a site I created stored there, from 1996. When I started www.astrologer.com there were only six astrology sites in the entire web. My idea was to set up an international directory of properly qualified astrologers. Good niche market idea, and it was a tidy little business for a while, leading on to another business which did very well for me. Yahoo! said that it was “…..home for the definitive Web Site list for astrology and related fields.”

Astrologer.com became a bit too big and too much trouble for one person, so I gladly sold it on to its present owners a few years ago and was quite happy thank you with the proceeds. But I still think the design looks damn good, even now – it’s a little drawing I did of Dublin Bay in Windows Paint when I was still nostalgic about my home town. And the image is stretchy with the browser window, which I thought was mega-groovy at the time. Because there were only two light images, it loaded very fast, because everyone, of course, was on very very slow dial-up then. Not that things have changed much in this part of Italy ten years on, mind you. But I’m not complaining.
