I thought I’d start keeping a blog, in addition to writing the fortnightly column for Hot Press. I’m going through big changes, stopping work at the end of the month, and getting a book published next month in Dublin, as well as taking a few months out to write in Italy.I’m aware mostly of panic – financially it’s a big strain, but I’m determined to do it anyway. Yesterday I committed to staying in Tuscany in October, which felt great. I also did my second, thorough proofreading for Diary of a Man. I can’t quite make out what it’s going to be like – when I’m down, the book seems to be one long dirge, a picking of a scab that leaves me heartsore. And then when I’m up I think it’s interesting, it reads fine, some bits are amusing, and I just wonder about it being a bit repetitive. But then my life has been repetitive in London. I’m looking forward to changing my life.
